Attorney Sara A. Austin of Austin Law Firm LLC spoke to the York Chapter of AAUW about women in the work place on March 9 at the York Art Association.
Austin spoke to the 35 attendees of the presentation about state and federal statutes including those dealing with discrimination based on gender, age, race, disability, and sex. She also discussed an article in the March 8 publication of Time magazine which states that while women are 50% of the workforce, there is still a long way to go to get to the top.
AAUW (American Association of University Women) has been a leading voice across the nation encouraging education and equity for women and girls since 1881. AAUW strives to break down educational and economical barriers emphasizing that all women deserve a fair chance.
“I feel that it is very important to keep pushing forward for the equality of women and minorities in the workplace and I am inspired by what the AAUW stands for,” said Austin.
